Cookie Policy

The short version. This site sets no cookies today: none of its own, and none from anyone else. It saves two small notes in your browser’s localStorage, explained below, and it has a consent banner ready so that any analytics or ads added in future can only load if you say yes.

Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to keep and send back with later requests. They are often used to recognise you across visits or across sites. Rice Purity Tester does not use them. You can take the Rice Purity Test, read every article and share your score without a single cookie being set.

What we store instead: two localStorage items

localStorage is a small storage area in your browser that a site can write to and read from. Unlike cookies, it is not sent to the server with each request. It stays on your device until you clear it. We use exactly two keys:

KeyValuePurposeHow long
rpt-cookie-consent“accepted” or “declined”Remembers your answer to the cookie banner so it does not reappear on every page.Until you clear site data
rpt-stats-dayA date, such as 2026-10-23 (UTC)Set only if you add your score to the anonymous stats. It records the day you did it, so the page will not offer to add it again that day.Until you clear site data

Neither item contains your answers, your score or anything that identifies you. Your test answers are never saved, not even in localStorage. The full picture of what the site does with data is in the privacy policy.

How the consent banner works

On your first visit, a banner asks you to Accept or Decline. Whatever you pick is saved in rpt-cookie-consent and the banner goes away.

The site is built so that analytics or advertising code (such as Google Analytics or Google AdSense) can sit in the page in a switched-off form. Your browser treats it as plain text and does not run it. Only after you press Accept does the banner script turn those blocks into working scripts, and it does that again on each later visit while your choice stays “accepted”. If you decline, they never run.

Right now there are no such scripts, so Accept and Decline lead to exactly the same site. One choice covers both analytics and ads; there are no separate toggles. Before any analytics or ad provider is switched on, we will update this page and the privacy policy to name it and describe the cookies it sets.

How to change your choice

Use the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of any page, or open the cookie banner now. The banner appears again and your new answer replaces the old one.

Two details, so there are no surprises. Switching from Accept to Decline stops future scripts from loading from the next page you open, but a script already running on the current page keeps running until you leave it. And if a third-party script had ever set cookies of its own, declining would not delete them; clearing your site data, below, would. Neither point affects you today, since no such scripts exist.

How to clear what the site has stored

Clearing site data removes both localStorage items. The banner will ask again on your next visit, and the stats box will no longer know you already added a score today (the server’s daily limit still applies). Menu names shift between browser versions, but these routes work in current releases:

A private or incognito window is the simplest option of all. Anything stored there disappears when you close the window.

If ads are ever switched on

This section only matters if we start showing Google ads, which we do not do today. Google requires sites that show its ads to visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland to collect consent through a consent tool that Google has certified. Our simple banner is not one of those. So if ads arrive, visitors in those regions may see Google’s own consent message, or another certified one, alongside or instead of ours. We would update this page before that happens.
