Terms of Use

These terms apply to ricepurity-tester.com (“Rice Purity Tester”, “we”). By using the site you agree to them. They are written in plain English on purpose, and they are short because the site is simple: a free quiz, some articles and an optional anonymous stats box. No accounts, no payments.
What this site is for
The Rice Purity Test here is for entertainment and self-reflection. It is a list of 100 experiences you tick or leave blank, and the score counts how many you left blank. That is all it measures.
The questions are about sex, drugs, alcohol and the law, so the site is for adults 18 and over. If you are under 18, please do not use it.
Not advice of any kind
Nothing on this site is medical, psychological, legal or sexual-health advice, and the score is not a diagnosis of anything. Read the articles as one experienced person’s view, not as professional guidance for your situation.
If a question hits harder than expected. For sexual-health questions, such as testing, contraception or symptoms, see a doctor or a sexual-health clinic. If your score or the questions bring up distress about past experiences, talk to someone you trust or a local support service. In the US you can call or text 988 at any time.
The questions describe acts, they do not recommend them
Some items describe illegal acts, and some describe things that are only acceptable when everyone involved has agreed. They are there so you can look back at your own life, not as a to-do list. We do not encourage anyone to break the law, use drugs, drive impaired or do anything sexual without clear consent. Even the official test’s own page jokes that it is not a bucket list. A lower score is not a goal.
Score bands are our interpretation
The seven score bands, from “Uncooked rice” at 100 down to “Tahdig” at 0 to 9, are our own way of describing ranges. The Rice Thresher publishes no official meaning for scores, and there is no scientific scale behind any purity test. Our bands are not an official, clinical or scientific measure of anything, and nobody should use a score to judge another person. You can read how we wrote them on the score meaning page.
An independent site
Rice Purity Tester is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Rice University or the Rice Thresher, the student newspaper that publishes the official test. We use the name “Rice Purity Test” only to describe the well-known questionnaire our version follows. Our 100 items keep the order and scope of the Thresher’s current test so scores are comparable, but the wording on this site is our own. The history page covers where the original came from.
Using the stats feature fairly
The anonymous stats only work if each entry is one real person’s real score. When you use the “Add my score anonymously” box, you agree:
- to submit only your own score and your real age range;
- not to use bots, scripts or any automated tool to send scores;
- not to invent scores, try to get around the daily limit, or overload or probe the server.
Because entries are anonymous tally marks, we cannot pick out a single fake one. If we have reason to think the numbers have been manipulated, we may reset or adjust the stats, block traffic, or switch the feature off.
Sharing results, yours and other people’s
You are welcome to share your score, your result card and links to our pages. The couples comparison link contains a partner’s full set of answers, so only share or forward it with their agreement. And please do not pressure anyone into taking the test or showing you their result. Saying no is a complete answer.
Our content and code
The wording of our questions and hints, the band names and descriptions, the articles, the design, the rice-grain mascot and the site’s code belong to Rice Purity Tester. You may quote a short passage with a link back to the page it came from. Please do not copy whole pages, the question list as written here, or the code onto another site. The general idea of a purity test is decades-old campus folklore and the original Rice Purity Test belongs to the Rice Thresher; we claim neither.
No warranties, and limits on our liability
The site is provided free and “as is”. We work to keep it accurate and running, but we do not promise it will always be available, error-free or right for your purposes, and the live stats are only as good as the scores people choose to add.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or harm that comes from using the site, relying on a score or article, or sharing your results or links, including what other people do with them. Some places do not allow certain of these limits, and in those places they apply only as far as the law permits. Nothing here takes away rights you have that cannot legally be waived.
Links to other sites
Some articles mention or link to other websites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site changes, for example if we add advertising. The date at the top shows the latest version, and using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
